2. Chord Scale

Once you can work out a melody by ear you need to learn how to figure out the chords that go with it.

For any scale, there are seven possible root position chords, one starting on each note of the scale. You will need to know which ones are major or minor as that is a key part of matching chords to melodies.

You will be asked to listen to or play a numbered chord in the scale of C. Just say if it is major or minor. One chord (number 7) is of a type known as diminished. It is in this exercise but it won’t be used after that as it has a harsh sound and doesn’t appear in many songs.
